Thanks Anne!
Attention all Archers in Alberta
This is a call to unite all Archers in the province of Alberta.
Definitions for the purpose of this discussion: as taken from Webster’s Dictionary.
Archer – A person who is expert in the use of a bow and arrow
Archery – the sport of shooting arrows with a bow
Sport – An active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition
Promote – contribute to the progress or growth of;
Unite – act in concert or unite in common purpose or belief
Archers of all affiliations were invited to participate at an open forum discussion at the Calgary Archers hosted Provincial Championships July 26 and 27, 2008.
There were 122 registered Archers, 33 general members representing all affiliations attended the general forum and participated in the discussion. When the question was raised by the moderator of how many people were in favour of uniting, there was a unanimous show of hands. The general consensus of the members present was that the sport of archery and it’s organizations need to be united to prevent duplication of fees, rules etc. (streamlining).
This is an unsolicited invitation to all Archers in the province to become proactive, regardless of affiliation to read information posted on Bowzone, in their association newsletters, by speaking with as many individual archers as possible to learn more about the proposal. Become informed and decide whether the idea has merit or not. If you agree make the effort to attend your affiliated annual general meetings to progress to the next step.
Only through education, unity and patience can we as archers make progress, however, it will take the general member to let the executive members of the various affiliations know what they need and or want.
The steps you need to take:
Educate/inform yourself
Speak with others
Be involved in the decision-making
Attend annual general meetings
VOTE!
THE GOAL:

It seems to me that over the years the Alberta Bowhunters Association has worked very hard, donating countless (and I mean countless) hours of volunteer time to do just what the stated goal says and ....we continue to work very hard at doing so.
I am curious to learn where the movers of this issue believe the ABA has failed. How do they intend to do more than is already being done for each facet of bowhunting and 3D archery. Do they have the knowledge and mentored expertise to move forward on all issues germane to bowhunting and archery. I/we have reams of information and examples where we have stepped up to the plate for all aspects of archery. Every active, knowledgeable bowhunter/archer in Alberta knows how we have promoted bowhunting, 3D archery, education, conservation, youth development et al and that we constantly and continuously work with government to address the concerns of bowhunters and archers.
It also seems strange to me that the movers on this are affiliated clubs with the ABA. If that is the case and they wish to broaden the scope of 3D, they have always had the ability to do so within the ABA. There is lots of room for more volunteers. To date we have listened to our membership and set the number of shoots at 3....if you want more, and you are an ABA member....bring it forward.
So....what is wrong, what solutions do you have and are you willing to sign up and make a difference. We are certainly listening.
BTW...there will obviously be much more discussion on this to come.

As I've said countless times in the past...I'm all for the 3D groups coming together to make 3D in Alberta better....I really don't care which umbrella it comes under...whether it's the ABA, ATAA, 3DAA or a new organization is made.
It makes no difference which name...just that everyone is working together.

The information I posted is just that, information. It is for everyone to read and form an opinion. There was no mention that any of the organizations are not doing enough. What the consensus is, that there is so much redundancy that could be elimated by uniting and each affiliation coming together under one umbrella for the good of all. As we all know there is a tremendous problem finding volunteers to help out, no matter what organization it is. This would help in that area and many others. At this point it is only in the discussion stage and it is imperative for people to educate themselves and form opinions and express them. This was not meant to offend anyone particular affiliation it is just information of what is happening and what the ideas are out among the general membership. Most of the time individuals become angry and or frustrated because of the lack of information available. I just want to help keep the communication that began with that meeting open and continue in a positive direction.
