Hello everyone:

Attached is important information that we have been asked to forward to our communication lists for your review. This information comes to us from SRD.

"The Alberta Hunting Heritage Act-Bill 201-has been introduced in the Alberta Legislature and has already passed first reading. Bill 201 is more than just symbolic. It creates a statutory right to hunt that can be defended in court. It will help secure the future of hunting in Alberta. Because this is a "Private Member's Bill," each MLA is free to vote how he or she wants. What they hear from their constituents will influence how they vote.

A copy of Bill 201 is attached to this email for your information."

It great to see Alberta cares about our hunting heritage. People should be proud to say "I'm a hunter." This is great news.

Coming from a guy that earns a living from hunting and trapping,it is nice to see the government take note on a topic that means so much to all of us.But what's this bill mean?

The way I see it is quite simple. We have the right to fish, hunt and trap within the law(s) set out. Nobody can take away that right. Not even the :)aninal activists and PETA groups.

This is a nice thought but speaking as an Ontario resident who has lost one of his favorite outdoor pursuits, (spring bear hunting), We,(sports men and women) need to make as much noise as we can to insure that our politicians understand that we will not stand for any infringements on our cultural rights. If we sit back and think that someone else will look after our interests things can go terribly wrong, very quickly.

Food for Thought.

Sounds like you will need to advise your wildlife minister of what Alberta is doing. Take it another step and make something happen.

This loss was a simple act of our PM at the time being controlled by the big money supporters of his party. The day it was cancelled our minister of natural resources told reporters at approximately 11:00 Am that there was definately not going to be a spring hunt cancellation. At 12:30 that same day his boss,(the P.M.) informed him that the hunt was cancelled. Strangely enough the P.M had just emerged from a lunch appointement with one of his largest campaign contributors.
I'm not going to use this forum as a political mud slinging venue, I just want all to know that even though things seem to be going in our favor, until laws are made don't stop fighting....
You are right we need this kind of legislation.

Sometimes,it seemes like it dos'nt matter whats on paper when it comes to hunters rights. If the big money lobbie groups want to spend enough money they will get there way. I live and hunt, trap in w.m.u 348,and sustainable resources changed the archery bull moose season from open to draw, because a biolagist could'nt fill his tag.I can attest that the moose population is pretty good in 348.Being a resident, trapper, and everyday outdoor enthusiest every day in this zone I know that decission was based on one mans political pull. When things like that happen I dont think that this new act will change those kinds of decissions.By this I mean they wont try to elliminate all @ once just take away a bit at a time.Good luck and happy hunting.:286:
