View Full Version : 100 + year old set of deer horns

I put a couple of pics in my folder of a rack that my great uncle gave me. His uncle gave it to him when he was a kid back in the 20's. He claims it was shot in the 1890's some where down around Carlisle Sask. It's not a huge rack but it does have double drop tines on it that are probably the only reason it was kept and not tossed out. When I had it remounted the skull plate pretty much crumbled and fell apart because it was so old and dry.

I also posted a few other horn mounts that we have in the loft of a barn we fixed up. We have a 130 B+C minimum before they can go up there. Check out the loft pics too. They are all in my folder in the Members Photos albums.

Thats neat. Not every day you get to see antlers that old. Kinda like the Bull Elk Skull that was pulled out of a dried up slough here in Alberta. It was carbon dated at over 150 years old. I will try to dig up a photo.

That's one hell of a big elk cdnarcher. Amazing how well preserved it looks after all that time. Wonder where his great great great grandson is hiding??? :lol: :lol: :lol:

I don't think I have ever ran across a score for that rack, but it is impressive.

That Elk scored 418 4/8 non-typical points and was dated back to 1623.
