View Full Version : 2007 Bowzone Distance League
WOOKIE

Hi all. How many of you would be interested in a Bowzone Target League? Shoot once a week and PM your scores to me. Scoring would be Vegas Scoring.
Vegas scoring:
- 30 arrows
- three arrows per end
- 10 ends
- Distance: 18 meters
- 40 cm three spot must be used for all archers born on or before December 31, 1992
- 40 cm three spot targets or 60 cm single spot targets may be used by all archers born on or after January 1, 1993
http://forum.bowzone.ca/gallery/files/1/7/9/VegasFace.gif
The League would run for 8 weeks. One round per week. Scores to be submitted on the honor system (ie. NO CHEATING). Scores must be submitted by Sunday of every week. If I don't have your score by 11:59PM on Sunday night, you get scored a zero! First score would be due by March 18.
The winner will not win anything but prestige and admiration of his or her peers. I will try to round up a few prizes to be drawn at random from scores submitted. If you want to donate a prize or prizes, PM me.
Please reply in this thread if you want to sign up.
Thanks
Trevor

I am sure us three northern guys would be up for it. Will talk to oscar and Corey and see if they are interested. Only thing stopping my brother is he has to go in for surgery sometime this month. He actually had a gall bladder attack last night when he got home and is laid up right now.
just for everyones clarification is the x an X or is it a ten. there have been so many rule changes lately in diff orginizations.
been told that the big ten is a nine from diff people so just want to know what is what

X is a ten with a X. Highest possible score is a 300-30X. X's are tie breakers.

Cool guys! Just a clarification, all competitors must be a Bowzone member and post thier intentions to join on this thread. When scores are pm'ed to me, it must include the username, score and province in this format:
wookie 267-14X Alberta
I will post scores and standings weekly.
Thanks all.

The discrepancy on the x arises from FITA and "Vegas" scoring.....
Vegas scoring is being used here..... BIG 10 Yay!.....
Fita made the x only count as a 10 to create a handicap system for compound vs. recurve (who use a big 10)
I have had a senior archery who I respect very much tell me that when FITA went to the baby 10...... It was a bad move!.....

Maybe, we could throw in a Provincial Team Challenge into this. The more archers your province has shooting the league, the better the chances of winning the "Bowzone Provincial Award Of Distinction"! Recruit as many archers from your province as possible, get them to post in this thread and we are off to the races.
Total Score of all shooters from your province. Top provincial cumulative score wins.
I'm in, good choice on the 18th for first entry date, gives me a chance to maybe get the new bow set up in time for the first score.

I'm intrested, not sure o the type of target you want to use (we only have 40cm targets at our range) Also, I have no idea on vegas scoring.
I would like to suggest that you set up the contest to run 10 weeks, with the top 8 scores being counted.
Reason being, that I know for sure I can always make it to our range on shoot night, and I would hate to sign up, but know there is no way to make all 8 weeks. I can see making 8 out of 10.
Thoughts everyone else?
If we can adjust it that way, I will be in for sure

Target is a 40 cm 3 spot.
Scoring is shown in the very first post
League will run 8 weeks, so it is over early in May
You can shoot your score any day in the week it is due, so there is flexibility.

I am not exactly sure Knacker ..... I beleive you must break the line like hockey in Fita/ vegas type scoring
Mathewsarcher know more about than most anyone I know
Personally I think thats the way it should be ...break the line barrier ...But thats just me
In Hockey it dont count if the puck is on the line .... it must cross the line

8.6.2 Scoring Arrow Values
An arrow will be scored according to the position of the shaft in the target face. If the shaft of an arrow touches two colours, or touches any
dividing lines between two scoring zones, that arrow will score the higher value of the two zones involved.
8.6.2.1 Neither the arrows nor the target face will be touched until all the arrows on that target butt have been recorded.
8.6.2.2 If more than the required number of arrows should be found in the target butt or on the floor near the target butt or in the shooting lanes,
only the three (3) (or six (6)) lowest in value will be scored. Athletes (or teams) found to repeat this offence may be disqualified.
8.6.2.3 When triple faces are used, arrows may be shot in any order, but if more than one arrow is shot into the same scoring area, both (or all)
arrows count as part of that end, but only the lowest value arrow will score. The other arrow, or arrows, in the same spot will be scored as a miss,
or as misses. Any arrow missing the outermost blue six (6) zone will be scored as a miss.
8.6.2.4 If a fragment of a target face is missing, including the dividing line or where two colours meet, or if the dividing line is pushed aside
by an arrow, then an imaginary circular line will be used for judging the value of any arrow that hits such a part.
8.6.2.5 All arrow holes in the scoring zone will be suitably marked every time when arrows are scored and drawn from the target face. [FCA
Note:According to the FCA Judge’s Handbook, arrow holes should be marked by 2 perpendicular lines 5mm or shorter. Target faces with
arrow holes marked in heavy lines or with torn arrow holes may be considered to be damaged and Judges may replace such target faces.]
8.6.2.6 Arrows embedded in the butt and not showing on the face can only be scored by a Judge.
8.6.2.7 An arrow hitting:
8.6.2.7.1 The target butt and rebounding, will score according to the mark it makes on the target face, provided that all other arrow holes
have been marked and an unmarked hole or mark can be identified.
When a rebound occurs:
• The athlete concerned will, after shooting his or her end of three arrows, remain on the shooting line with a flag raised above the head as a
signal to the Judges; [FCA Note - FCA allows an athlete to hold his/her bow overhead as a signal]
• When all athletes on the shooting line for that end have finished shooting their three arrows or the time limit has expired, whichever is
appropriate, the Director of Shooting will interrupt the shooting. The athlete with the rebound arrow will go to the target butt together
with a Judge, who will decide the point of impact, take down the value and mark the hole. The Judge will later participate in scoring that
end. The rebound arrow is to be left behind the target butt until that complete end has been scored. When the field is clear, the Director of
Shooting will give the signal for shooting to continue.
8.6.2.7.2 The target butt and hanging from it, will have the athlete or athletes on that target butt stop shooting and signal with a flag. When
the shooting of that end has been completed by the other athletes on the line, a Judge with the athlete will go to the target butt, note the value of
the arrow, remove it, mark the hole and place the arrow behind the target butt. The remaining arrows will be shot by the athlete(s) on that target
butt before the Director of Shooting orders general shooting or scoring to continue. The Judge concerned will participate in the scoring of that
end;
8.6.2.7.3 The target butt and passing completely through the butt, provided all arrow holes have been marked and provided an unmarked
hole can be identified, will score according to the value of the hole in the target face;
8.6.2.7.4 Another arrow in the nock and remaining embedded in it, will score the same value as the arrow struck;
8.6.2.7.5 Another arrow, and deflecting into the target face, will score as it lies in the target face;
8.6.2.7.6 Another arrow, and then rebounding, will score the value of the struck arrow, provided the damaged arrow can be identified;
8.6.2.7.7 A target face, other than an athlete's own target face, will be considered part of that end and will score as a miss.
8.6.2.7.8 The target face outside the outermost scoring zone will score as a miss.
8.6.2.8 An arrow found on the ground in the shooting lane or behind the target, which has been claimed as a bouncer or pass through, must, in
the opinion of the Judge(s), have first hit the target. If more than one unmarked hole is located in the scoring zone of the target face after a
bouncer or pass through has occurred, the value of the lowest scoring hole will be given to the athlete;
8.6.2.9 In the Indoor Match Round arrows rebounding, passing through the butt or hanging from it will not stop the competition.
8.6.2.10 A miss shall be recorded as “M” in the scorecard.

ok question, just for clarification. Can a single spot target be used for the ones who are having a hard time keeping them in the smaller 3 spot , just have to fire 3 arrows into same target? I was asked the other night and did not know what the answer would be figured that there should be no prob with it.

We will stick with the 40cm three spots. Otherwise Oscar will shoot the league on a 60cm face to try to win! :mooned:
On second thought, Kids 14 years and younger may shoot thier rounds on the 60 cm single face targets.
I have edited the first post in this thread to reflect this.

I was thinking about trying to shrink the 40cm to 20cm for Oscar since he has his new toy (APA Python) that way it will compensate for his swollen head............lol

So I head over to the shop after work last night to shoot my score because I have very limitied time this week.
I open my case, pull my Pro-Elite out, throw the stabs on it, reach in my case to get my Sureloc and scope. hmmmmm, no sight. Must be in the truck.
Head out to the truck, no sight. Damn.
Head upstairs to my locker and grab my Ultratec, which is set up for Outdoor 3D with skinny arras.
So anyways, last night was likely my only chance to shoot a score this week and I shot it with my 3D bow and small arrows. I still managed to pull out a pretty respectable score, but with a lower X count.
Oh well, it was fun!

Hey wookie i have a question that may also concern the other guys from Alberta
As i'm sure you know the provincial champs are on the 14th and 15th
I will not be able to get home till late that night and might not be able to post a score
So is there anything we can do to fix it or should i just shoot a score earlier and submit it on a wednesday or something?

Yep, just send it to me earlier in the week. Shoot two this week and submit one for week 4 and 1 for week 5. Whatever works.

They are the ATAA Target Championships. They are being held in Lac La Biche Andy.

Hey all. I need everyone that has sent me their week 4 scores to resend them to me. I dumped my PM's and all the scores are on my computer at the office. I am off to Vancouver Island for 5 days for some much needed R and R, so if I want to get the scores done on Sunday, I need all the scores again.
Thanks

Here are the Week 5 Scores and Standings. I didn't do scores until this morning. I emailed all of the members with missing scores last night and I still had to give 11 Zeros. Is everyone losing interest?
Week 6 Scores are due Sunday April 22.
Not me, but looks like I have to get my act together I fell one point behind you again.

I don't want to lose interest but i'm starting to wonder if i can finish.
At the end of the month we are out of our range until next winter so i might not be able to finish the rest of the scores i may have to shoot some outdoors. but i think this might be happening to other people. i think if we start this earlier next year then we could have a chance at keeping a whole 8 week long interest and possibly a bigger turn out as well.

It looks like I damaged a Facet Joint on my spine while shovelling dirt. I can't even stand up straight, so I think shooting is out for a bit.

Well folks, its all over but the crying. Congrats to Jackal (Gold), Travski (Silver) and Fedup (Bronze). I haven't calculated all the scores, but I think Alberta ran away with the Provincial Challange.
I realize now that this was started to late in the spring and probably ran a couple of weeks too long. Next winter we will start it way earlier and cut it dow to 6 weeks
Thanks to all that participated. See ya next winter!
Oops, guess I should have gotten out with the bow this week instead of playing with guns. Oh well, at least I was shooting something.

They do the same type of shoot threw the FCA (Federation of Canadian Archers). It is called the Mail Match. You can look it up on the FCA web page (www.fca.ca) as well as all the rules and class for different archers. Cost is $5.00 per year and they will award medals for best in class and on a ranking system.
