CD's ruling to block residents from hunting and baiting bears is not acceptable!

What area are you in, generally speaking. I guided on the Alberta side and I gotta say that there is an issue in that area that needs looking at from guides and other stake holders from the BC side. The alberta natural reasources petitioned MOELP,(or whatever it's called today) to shut down the caribou hunt on the BC side. Their reasoning was that a harvest there was hurting the heards in alberta. The largest annual harvest was done by the natives and that BC conservation officers felt was minimal at best. The petition, however went through and the BC hunt was closed down.

What I found extremely interesting was that Wheyerhauser (SP?) had just put a $2 million dollar crossing across the Narraway river with full intention of a massive oldgrowth timber harvest. They did their own study on the caribou which they presented to Alberta fish and game stating this would not affect the wintering grounds of the caribou. I have personally seen how they practice harvest in Alberta and massive clearing of the oldgrowth in that area would indeed have to affect the caribou. The road and cut block access also gives influence by snowmobilers/atv's into the heart of the bou's at their most sensative time.

Why should we support sustaining the caribou on the alberta side when they are ruining habitat, hence population damage themselves. The caribou on the BC side are not in any distress and could and should have an open season.
