Ok this is the boy thats hitting my bait all the pics have him at untraditional times either middle of the night or at noon and lets face it with the price of gas I can only go after him one day a week.so would you call him a shooter he's not that fat but judging by the size of the barrels he seems quit tall and long whats your opinion. Thanks Paul

If he is a mid day feeder then he aint the biggest one around ...but he is a fair sized Yogi, from his body I would say that he is probally 2-3 years old ....

I have 2 schools of thought here .... first for me personally ...the only good bear is a dead bear ....

If you are wanting a big score to brag to yer buddies ...then I would probally pass ....and look for a bigger one...

He will still make a good sausage .... he will still make a nice rug ..... and if your taking him by bow .... He would be a "trophy" in my book ...

Decent bear for body,

Head looks small, I look at the ears and if they are prominent then the head is usually small,

however what mikey said i agree with

Just me two bits

ok guys now I'm lost I've taken two bears in my hunting career the first being a small 5 footer the second being larger ,nose to tail 6'7" this guy looks a lot closer to the second one.
I took the photos to the local range and the guys say shooter, they point out the big space between the ears , air space under it and its body size compared to the barrels and they attribute the bear not being fat to the poor mast crop last fall they figure the bait being hit when it is is due to it being a smart bear.
Heres a couple more pic's.

With your limited amount of time to go out, I would say he is deffinately a shooter. Nice lookin bear.

There is only one way to tell...........Shoot him and then put a tape measure on him. He looks good for eat'n' and rug'n'. Either way.

On a scale of 1 to 10 i would rate him a 7-8 for size,

1 being milk on the lips to 10 being a monster!

All I can say is you have more than one tag, and with limited time that you have,

DRILL HIM!!!! Let us know how big he really is!!!

Put some steel on target then be choosy on second bar!!!

AC is right...you probably have 2 tags. Use the first to make sure you get a bear-then you can get picky. It's not a bad bear and I've seen lots in here that were MUCH smaller.

I am with the shoot-it camp, especially if it is an archery bear. Although that bear is pretty tall in the legs'n'ears he has some pretty good mass to its body. 'N even though his ears appear tall they do appear to be wide. I'd guess it at over 6' and would hesitate to consider it a shooter. Especially when one has two tags.

Looks like a decent bear, ears are out on the side not on top. But body size isn't great, truly big bears seem to come out of hibernation with lots of fat still and big bellies.

Definately a mature bear, more than likely a boar so if its your first bear hes decent.

As for being a mid day feeder, I've found that mid day, in heavily hunted areas may be the best time for a big boar. Two of my best cam between 1 and 3 oclock both were well into P&Y (19+). Pete Lehman gave me tip to start hunting mid day many years ago. He has taken many big 20" plus bears with bows over the mid day. Big bears in pressured areas due strange things. One bear 19 3/8 I ended up taking would bed up near the bait and only hit it during midday right after I left the bait. I caught him on camera everytime I left the bait rushing in to bet the best donuts. Finally tag teamed him with two peopel in and one out.

I have taken many bears midday. Most of them have been in B.C. where baiting is not legal. I spot and stalk mostly and have had good luck with a predator call!
