So, here's a question.

When I start to break in my H1, which method should I use and Why?

1. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
2. Manufacturer's reccommended "take it easy" break in period.

Break it in like you will ride it . The worst thing IMO is to run it at a constant speed good gas and oil more important then how you ride it.

Get the engine warm then ride it normally. No lugging or mudbogging just yet. Stay away from heating the engine too much. Not overheating just keep it from the high end of normal heat range for awhile. After 6 hours then change fluids and give her!

Maintenance is everything! Had a Honda 300 quad that I bought in 99 and sold in 03 -not one bit of trouble ever. Did I ride it lots and hard - forestry consultant many days rode it all day and in hard tough country hard riding, swamps, hills etc. pulling loads etc.

This quad is still going strong and the fellow I sold it two had 3 others that were used and said that of them all my old one run the best.

How did I break it in? -Rode it on normal terrain and did not take it easy but was not rough on it either at first, lots of accel and decel but did not lug it. The engine is designed to run in the normal operating temperature and this will temper the engine.

If you want you can lend it to me for the weekend and I can do tis for you at no charge! :D

Ok Ive read enough after working in the toy industry for over 25 yrs as a Tech/instructor here is my input, weather you runhard or easy is of no difference at all, the breakin period is to allow the rings in the cylinder to seat them selves this will take how ever long it takes, usually only a few hours 4-6, after that it is important to change the fluids in the engine to remove any microscopic shavings from this process. as for the rest of the peice of equipment the same process with gears, and bearings have to seat themselves, and again replace the fluids. Use a petrolium based fluid during breakin, after that you can use petroleum based or synthetic.
Other than that have alot of safe fun with your toy!
Todays manafactures design and build their equipment to ready to go, engines are tested at factory before they leave, and again most dealers will run the motors.
Having worked for Mercury Marine there is very little that actually goes wrong out of the box the most common problems arise in the Pre delivery Inspection at the dealer ship, to much in a hurry, to much pressure, lack of training, lack of tools ect.
Most warranty is of a goodwill nature, and customer support, yes problems do arise and beleive me the manafactures can trace a problem right back to the assembly line or farther through a failier analasys process.
