HI all!
Not sure if this is the right spot for this post...apologies to the mods if it is not. Feel free to relocate my post if needed :)
Since moving out here from Edmonton, I've had a few parents who've seen me slingin a few in the back yard, mention to me that their kids have wanted to check out archery. Problem is, while there appears to be a club out this way, tracking them down is turning out to be a chore and so far unsuccessful.
I am seriously considering putting together the required bits and pieces for an after school type program in conjunction with the local boys and girls club.
What kind of things should I be looking at having in place to abide by any legalities and such? Insurance stuff? Waivers/disclaimers?
Any suggestions and feedback would be greatly aprpeciated. :) Or if someone does have proper contact info for the local club out int he St. Paul alberta area that'd be great too **grins**

I coordinate the junior archery program out of Spruce Grove,
first thing is form or afffiliate with a club and get ABA or ataa affiliation. This gives you FCA affiliation and insurance. -have ech of your members also get their ABA or ataa membership. I hope I don't appear biased!!! as to which association to join, you need to look at both and determine which one suits you.
In order to form a club you need to get your first level coaching and become a club judge.
affiliating with a local club is what I recommend.
on the ataa or ABA website should be a list of clubs

tks for the heads up on that acarcher :)
Since I have no clue how or where to get my coaching cert, it looks like I'll have to go into town and go to the address listed at the ATAA site for the St. Paul club and see about hooking up with them. They are listed as an ATAA member, so I am going to assume that the member club info is current. If they still exist, I'll get info and look into maybe carpooling with my van and a couple other parents.
I'll let ya know how I do when I make contact :)

Ok Coaching,
Larry Kelly from capital Reagin Archery club does the coaching course. CRARCHERY.ca
If you had a place to shoot where you are then you can run the junior program as an extension of that club and even work in conjuction with the boys and girls club.
good Luck!
Just a quick note about FCA insurance; well actually 2. For the insurance to be valid 2 conditions must be met
1. The club must have a club judge - info is on the FCA website. This is an FCA requirement
2. ALL of the local club members MUST be members of either the ABA or ATAA in order for the insurance to be valid, again this is an FCA requirement and from what I remember is a requirement of the insurance underwriter.
Also, Al do you have a poster or some kind of information ready for me? Thanks.

WOOHOO!
Found the St. Paul club and had a nice chat with one of the Executive last night. Will be meeting with him Thursday night at the weekly shoot. :)
I'll be getting all the details and such on the club and looking into the requirements more for getting something happening for the kids out here soon :)
Also found out that the info on the ATAA site for club listings has at least one incorrect entry. Seems that the address listed for the St. Paul club is inaccurate. :(

There will be some special junior opportunities in Alberta once I get some details worked out then I will post more!!! -almost there!!!!
