Hey Everyone,
I am putting together a new setup and would like some feedback on what accessories would fit the situation properly.
I have decided to start shooting 18m Fita. I used to bow hunt and 3d sometimes but that does not intrest me anymore.
So here we go, I have decided on the Hoyt ProElite W/XT 3000 limbs to get that 40 inches.
But i am really confused on which Rest / Sight / Release i should be using.
I have had my experiances with Back tension and we will just forget about that right off the bat!
I was thinking of using my old TRAP door on the new bow! Is that the best choice? I have been noticing this other type of rest on alot of comp bows that is sort of a triangle with a littel V at the top ..
For the sight i was thinking Sure loc .. can someone recomend which model or if you have another type ... Around my way the resources are scarce for archery products ... and my outfitter has alot of Sure loc...
The last is the release ... I used to use the Carte Solution 3 but idiot me went and sold it... I was looking at getting another carter maybe Chocolate ?
Any recomendations will be acepted!
Thank You for your help!!

Sureloc makes an excelletn FITA sight. You'll just have to decide how to out fit it ie. scope power, size etc. 4-6x lenses are likely the most popular and a clarifier peep will likely help clear up the sight picture.
The most populat style rest for target is likely the blade type launcher you described. The trophy taker spring steel I or II fits the bill nicely, or NAP among others make blades to convert your rest to this style. The blades typically come in 3 sixes .008, .010 and .012 depending on your arrow weight. You lock the spring tension down and let the launcher do the work of the spring.
Carter makes a great release, I found the chocloate addiction to big for my hand, and prefer the target 3 or insatiable 3.
Other sights to look at would be the copperjohn ants and shibuya ultimate. For other releases Stan Super x.

My opinion only: For Indoor FITA ...if you are not gonna shoot outdoors and not gonna change distances ...a single fixed pin sight will do ....if you wanna try all sorts of paper punchin' then I suggest a Surloc of somesort ... Supreme is the Caddilac .... a Challanger is like a supreme without the the 3rd axis .... I cant see too many side hill shots in FITA (unless you take up field) so a challanger will do ya just fine ...
rests .... Fallaways are nice but I am not sold on them when you are triing to punch the dime .... I like the tounge type rests for target ... I presently have a Golden Key TKO rest with a spring steel laucher blade ...I like it .... alot of others I know have a similar rest with a Basket type ...Basically a looped wire .... For best rests on the planet click the Golden Key link in my sig .... any decent dealer will have a line on them ......
Releases are of a personal choice ...I like the Carter thumb triggers ... I however find the Choc addiction to feel bulky in my hands .... that being said ...Guy I know loves his and his hands are smaller than mine .... I have a Target 3 ... I like it but I would really like a Target 4 or a Hunter, I thought that way about Back tension as well .... I played with a couple one night and feel that I could shoot them .....Its all about holding yer hand right when you draw it
Also I wanna say Cudos on the new Bow ..... Friend of mine has that combination with the Spirals ...he likes it alot .... If I am gonna go a strictly target bow thats what I would get .... but I would stay with the 2000 limbs and go with spirals being only 28" draw ...If I went to 3000 limbs I would lose alot of speed that is really nice to have in 3D
Cheers ...and before I forget ....Welcome to the Bowzone!

Challenger also has third axis but you have to manually lock it down and no quick distances changes.
If your serious about target you'll need the scope. Internationally there are only two classes Compound and recurve, so if thats your goal you'll need to shoot the small x ring as a ten and the lens will help out.

WoW Thats awsome! i guess i will have to look into those rest's. Another quick question is .. Speed .. everyone is talking speed but i mean what will be the difference? 290 to 310 fps? If the target is not moving then why do we need the speed? Wouldnt accuracy be much better than speed? I mean from experiance i had a pse bow and i cranked it to the max to try to get more force/speed and all the bow did was jump in my hands ....

Speed isnt important in FITA ..... there is no obsticals and you know what range your shooting at. you can at 150fps as long as the arrow gets there ....
the talk about speed is a 3D phenomenon ..... unknown distances .... if my arrow is going faster it wont drop as much between 25 and 30 yrds ... Makes a little more forgiving ...less arc so one wont have to woory about over hanging trees etc.....
Also helps in Unknown Field as well

Speed is definately not as important for indoor FITA. Most indoor archers shoot large diameter (23xx) arrows with heavy points (145+ gr) to help with spine. Speeds likely range from 220-280 fps. Accuracy is what your looking for here.
Outdoors speed is more of an issue. Since your shooting 90M with variable winds, thin shafts (x10, ACE, navigator) are the rule with moderatley heavy point (100-120gr). Seeds of 250-280 are likely the rule rather than the exception. THese speeds are still fairly forgiving but help minimize wind drift.

You dude's know what Ur talking about! What do you recomend for arows and fletch for the new technology ?? Im gonna be doing mostly indoor maybe sometimes outdoor.. What do you suggest aluminium or carbon? Or is there a new technology that has been invented that is wild?
Which arrow do you suggest? I will be shooting 40/50#

Indoors most are shooting aluminums x7's (23xx), 2317 are actaully too big and not legal for FITA. Aluminums still defiantely more consistent than carbon but carbons such as GT 22's, Fatboys and LineJammers are catching on. Since speed is not an issue I'd stick with aluminums'.
I've shot feathers (4") inddors for years, I just find them more forgiving. Many other top shooters shoot everything including flex fletch, vantec, spinwings and others. For outdoor you can't beat the durability of Vantecs or flexfletch. in small sizes 1.75-2".
Outdoors arrows such as X10, ACE and Navigator are the rule. Expensive but worth it. If your on a budget I'd suggest easton redlines for outdoors. If moneys not an issue X10's are likely the most durable of the others but a lot more expensive. And if your really into spending some serious money look at the tungsten points for the x10's. Your arrows can then be worth more than your bow!!!!

Hey Thanks Buddy ...
Since your the mathews expert .. i got a mq32 that i wanna sell ... do you know how much it would cost me to change the limbs so that the bow is lighter like 40/50# ?

You'd have to go through a Mathews dealer for that unless you could find a set of limbs on ebay or elsewhere.
The Calgary Archery Centre could likely help you out if your in ALberta (403)255-6830.
You'll likely find your better off selling the bow and replacing it with one that has the weight your looking for. Likely looking at 200 or so for another set of limbs, but I haven;t ever had to purchase any so the price could be quite different.

Does it vibrate? No, it is the deadest bow I have ever shot.
Do I have a video of me shooting it? No, but watch Star Wars to see me in action!
It looks like a Mathews. Not even close. No Mathews will ever look that good! Just Joking. It is a very nice looking bow.

I see. I shoot a Pro Elite at 58 lbs, 31" draw with 338 grain Lightspeeds at 292fps. Was just curious.
TheGeekLord
03-21-2006, 11:33 AM
I need to buy a speed meter! I'll be shooting probably around 41 lbs cause my old mathews was 59 at the LOWEST limb setting and it was tiering me out! You must be a GIANT with a draw lenght like that! Im only 26"
