Where I live there is no archery club within a 2 hour drive, that I know of. I would like start one I'm pretty sure that there is enough people in the area that shoot to support it. My brother own 60 acres of mostly bush and this is where we will be setting it up I think that there should be enough room there for a basic 3D range. I haven't shot alot of 3D so I need some help. How many targets? Where can I buy targets? What kind of targets are the best? How much do I charge people? How should I lay out the range?
any tips or info would be greatly appreciated!!

your targets are going to be your biggest expense i wouuld say, if your lucky you may be able to find some used ones from another club somewhere, at our 3d shoots we have 15 stations, with 2 animals at each stations, some are deer, mountain lions, turkeys, bears, all sorts of different ones, but they range in price from 200 to 800 canadian depending on teh size of the animal you want, we have mannay more than the 30 used but we can change them up from shoot to shoot as well, as far as cutting out the trail and lanes, thats not really a big deal, as for charging people, we pay 15 bucks candian a shoot for non members, and 10 for a member, the membership fee is 20 bucks, hope this helps.

As for the layout, the easiest way to lay out the course so nobody gets shot is to make a loop away from your starting point and back. Then set your targets up so you shoot outwards from the loop. This way nobody will be on the wrong side of a bad shot.

We talked about starting up just a group of guys that wanted to shoot together and thought we all could buy a target then $5 a week to shoot for maintenance and buying new targets. It so far is only talk. You could also use some burlap bag targets to get started out. Maybe 10 3d targets 5 burlap targets and go through the course twice.

Thanks for all the tips guys, I'm going to start by talking to few buddies just to how many people would be intersted in a 3D range and then go from there. I was looking around online yesterday and targets are alot more expensive than I thought, especially the bigger animals like elk and buffalo.

Cdn redneck I like your idea of having a few targets and some burlap sacs the burlap targets could be replaced in time with 3D targets. Hopefully I can get something started this spring. It would be nice to have a place to shoot close by.

They aren't too much and then stuff them with shrink wrap.
