Anyone have any success with using a moose decoy during calling season and if so can you make your own?

I have never had to use a decoy ... Because anytime I was involved in taking a Moose ...it was with a rifle ....That being said ....
I have Friends that have great success with a 2 diamentional moose shaped cut out ...... Also what works really well is it you invest 10 dollars into a sling shot .... take some rags ...soak em in cow urine... wrap the rags around the rocks and then use the sling shot to ....disperse the scents .....that way your human stink inst all over the scent trail ...and during the Moose rut .... Do Meese rut???? :twak: LOL.... if theres a Bull anywhere near ya ..it will come a running fer a well placed arrow
Good luck Man

I've been using a moose decoy while tree stand hunting the past four years and during the rut it sure works. I made my own out of black corplast sign material. Bought a 8' X 4' sheet and drew a cow moose silouette from the thighs up and then cut it out. I folded it in thirds so it was easier to carry in. I put a couple rebar rods in the ground and electrical tie the decoy to them. I also made one last year out of landscape cloth which I tie between trees or hook on a bush. I just finished another one made of heavier fabric as the landscape material one is a little too flimsy and blows in the wind. When I set it up I hang a rag in a tree soaked in moose ****. The decoys really work great and in October 2004 I called in five different bulls to less than ten yards of the decoy in an hour and a half. Last October I was hunting with a buddy and we were spot and stalk hunting for moose. We saw a nice 45" bull about 300 yards away across a fairly large long slough .
We tried to call him over but no luck so when he went out of view I quickly strung my cloth decoy over some willows and started cow calling again. The bull spotted the decoy and headed our way. He swam across the slough and came out about 60 yards down wind of the decoy. He began to circle us and got our wind before he was close enough for a shot. With out the decoy that bull would not have come across the water I'm sure.

Thanks for the great info. When it comes to big moose, every edge is needed, big rackers 50"+ are usually pretty cagey.Where did you get a decent cow silouette to trace that big?I was originally thinking of using gunny sac material. Got the big moose bug from watching Jim Shockey on the Outdoor Channel when it was available on c-band.He has an absolutely great show and is now available on WildTv as well. Can only hope WildTv is picked up by the Sat providers and we all can watch him in Canada.

I searched the internet for a photo of a cow moose side profile and then just free hand drew it then cut it out. My hunting partner laughed when he first saw it and made fun of it as it has a large rear end but the bulls like it. I took a 40" bull over it the second day I set it out and my partner built his own and traced mine. The next year he took a nice bull over his. I think seven guys have traced it now and all but one have shot moose over their decoys. Its almost unfair to the moose.

I doubt it even needs to look like a moose, a big rectangular shape will probably work almost as well.
