I have used both. I prefer my Rocky Mountain Premiere 100's over anything that I have shot so far.
How bout you?

tried lots of both types, but i like the mechanicals because they fly the same as targetpoints. your bow must have enough energy to open the blades and still pass through I use a small cutting diameter and use the rest of the energy for a pass through. No sense in having a one big hole
would rather have 2 smaller ones.

I use Slicktrick broadheads they fly like fieldpoints and are fixed blade. For mechanicals I use NAP Spitfires.

Here at the shop we are constantly testing all sorts of broadheads, mechanicals and fixed blade.
I have used both types of heads and would recommend the Wasps, Rocky mountains and rockets for both styles. These companies make outstanding products and our testing has proved that.
As for which heads I've used:
75 gr. wasp SST Hammer for a 50 yard shot at a calf elk
75 gr. Wasp Jakhammer for a 66 yard shot at a 160 class mule deer
100 gr Rocket steelheads for a 25 yard shot at a mule deer doe
100 gr Steelhead for a 62 yd shot at a 150 class full velvet Mule deer.
These were all in the last two years. All complete pass throughs!!!
Last spring we were able to shoot three cow elk in a farmers pen ( This was not a hunt, we were buthering these elk for meat).
The equipment used was a Bowtech Extreme VFT at 75 lbs. 30 inch draw, Cx 300 and 100 gr Rocket steelheads. The 375 gr arrow's speed was 320 fps.
The first elk was shot head on at 35 yards and the arrow entered the base of the neck and exited out between the back legs. 12 seconds was all it took till she fell over dead ( we video taped the shots). The arrow center the heart and lungs plus the liver and exited about 8 inches below the anus.
The second elk was shot at 30 yards and the arrow hit the left scapula (shoulder blade) and exited out behind the right shoulder about 6 inches breaking a rib on the way out. The funny thing about this shot was that I heard a loud thunk after the arrow passed through the elk. We later found out that the arrow and broadhead also passed through a 1 x 4 plank that made up the fence. We found the arrow 28 yards in the next pasture NOW THATS PENETRATION.
The third elk was a text book double lung and she didn't last very long ether.
I f I can make a recommendation stick to a well reputable broadhead company and you should have no problems.

I shoot both aswell. Rocky mountain snyper's 100's and the new ironhead also in 100 gr. The ironhead is a three blade broadhead with 1" dia. Flies great, haven't had the chance to try them out on any animals yet.

I never tryed mechanical and I doubt I ever will. I am sure they are just fine but I am happy with the fixed blades. Currently use Muzzy 4 blade but think I will give the Slick Tricks a try.The way I see it fixed blades are always open and ready for the task.

I have been using fixed (Thunderhead 125) for a number of years. I bought some mechanicals for long shots ( a few years ago), but haven't had to use them yet. My longest shot on a deer, so far, was about 15 yards. Even with both in my quiver, I reach for what I KNOW works - the Thunderhead.[/img]
