What a day we had.My dog would tell you otherwise,I think he's ready to trade me in on a better shooter .I did a lot of shoot and release, in my defence I was using a new shotgun but I did get one at the end of the day.The dog work was phenominal, good trailing, rock solid points and two perfect retrieves. We did have to contend with a few guys who didn't know much about hunter ettiquette, like cutting us off on a push. One guy thought he'd block for us then be able to shoot over our dogs, while we did all the work,I don't think so.We called off the dogs and broke away from the carrigana hedge row we were on.This guy had no dog and couldn't kick up a bird from it.

The birds held tight once the dogs pinned them or they had nowhere to run.Twice I had a rooster flush right up my body getting out of there, the first one scared the living crap outta me and I almost forgot to shoot.A couple of times my setter would be running along and then all of a sudden he'd try to turn himself inside out locking up on point on a bird hunkered down in the grass, once he was literally nose to nose with a rooster,I missed that one too.You know, now that I think about it I think I forgot to put shot in that last box I loaded friday night   :D .

Sounds like you were at Millicent. Lots of idiots in there on a regular basis. We hunt private land that is one section away, never saw another hunter all day and limited out. Had an awesome day.

Nobody got shot at the Buck for Wildlife yesterday?

Nope, not even close to that place Whitetailer, much further north. We were at Bigalow Res.

I used to hunt the Brooks area a few years back when it used to be good hunting, and I'm not talking the release sites. We hunted private land exclusivly down there. But driving for two hours to hunt pheasant just wasn't fun anymore. The hun population has really been good locally and that keeps me closer to home now.

I hear ya.. gone are the days when you could drive East to Rocky and limit out on roosters. Even Brooks is starting to become a bit of a drive for 2 birds, especially since the private clubs have taken over on a abundance of the birds from the Pheasant hatchery. Besides that I'd rather shoot a wild rooster any day of the week.. their is just something about watching the dog work for the bird, instead of hammering a released pheasant sitting in a tree... "not that it has happened before" Also good point on the release site.. what happened to respecting other people when they are hunting?? nothing is worse than having someone else take advantage of your own hard work. sometimes it feels like certain people don't head out just to get outdoors to have a good time, it's all about competition.. seeing this alot on the big game end of things. Anyway great stuff on the Pheasants.. nothing sounds better than a loud cackle comming out of the cat tails.
