Hey everyone,

My name's Andy, live in Calgary, and am interested in getting into target archery with my gf. Both of us have tried it in the past enough to know we enjoy it, though not to have learned much about the gear.

What are the relative differences between using a compound bow, traditional bow, and crossbow besides personal preference? As well, we are both interested in purchasing something once we decide which path we'd like to go down so does anybody have advice on particular brands/models that are either good or to stay away from? We are both looking to spend somewhere in the area of $400-$600 each.

And last but not least I was curious if there are any clubs or groups around that are more geared towards target archery than hunting. Any help is appreciated! :)

Since you are from Calgary, I suggest you check out Calgary Archery Centre. They have excellent pro staff that can help you decide what is best for you, and they can help you get into a club for target shooting.

The Calgary Archery Center is definately the right coice in terms of target equipment. They carry everything from traditional to olympic freestyle equipment and run a sevetral target leagues throughout the winter months.

Outdoors the Cargary Archers club also holds outdoor FITAS during the summer (finished for the year) and has a fair number of target shooters.
