I would like to hear where other members hunt, the farmland or the big woods with no farmland for miles. I grew up and hunted back in NB and I didn't have much choice as to were I could hunt. It was the woods for me ,the further I could get away from a road the better I liked it. Here in Alberta I am also hunting the big woods and am wondering how the bucks racks in the big woods compare to the farmland bucks. Do you think the farmland bucks have better racks because they have better feed or are you seeing the big racks in the big woods as well? Is there any difference? I would like to hear your opinions.

I like to hunt both. My favorite place to hunt is the riverbanks they are absolutley full of game, and with good feed around in the farmers fields there is a chance for a trophy. In my line of work I get to see alot of terrain and I have seen big deer in both areas. Mulies tend to stay more in the farmland and riverbanks whereas whitetails tend to stay in the foested areas, well thats how it seems to be up here anyway.

my preference is the heavy timber.can stalk around, get nestled in, ambush, etc. I have jumped tons of dear this way too, or got busted is more like it. I admit though this year I was allowed to hunt one farm with bordering bush around the feilds so it gave me a taste for both.

I hunt the big piney woods mostly. It's been my experience that there isn't much diff in antler size between mountain bucks and farmland bucks.A few years back a friend of mine killed a 197 B&C mule buck on Corkscrew Mtn.I have also seen several white tails up there that would look good on the wall.
I like to spot and stalk.Get up where I can glass the cut blocks and alpine meadows and then plan a stalk.
