Do you feel that the Ontario MNR and the Ontario Government is working to support and promote hunting and fishing in Ontario or are they selling us to the anti's. I've got mixed emotions with this since I feel that the MNR is doing a reasonable job but the Government is selling us to the anti's so they can get voted in. I feel that the current gov got in by giving the anti's what they wanted which was the cancellation of the spring bear hunt. I feel that they will sell us out to anyone that will give them a vote. Not to say the next guy will be any better :bash: I just feel that it is wrong for a government to sell itself out to one or more groups just to get voted into power. I don't feel that hunting and fishing are promoted properly in Ontario and that the MNR and the Government could do a better job at this. What are your thaughts on this subject.

First of all I think all of the provinces should look at each others reglations and seasons and maybe get together on some issues Ontario no spring bear, 3 month archery for deer in the south and limited archey in the north for deer, In quebec spring bear and no fall bear quebec's moose hunting is far better setup than in ontario. ontarios moose draw is nothing more than a money grab and is in no way fair to a meat hunter who relies on moose as a primary meat source, this thing about a gaurenteed tag for a group of 10 hunters is for the birds(chicken feed) try splitting a bull moose 10 ways you might get 30 lbs each, this system was designed for money and nothing else it no way is fair to hunters.
In Quebec it is 2 tags per animal and the draw is rotated for bulls, cows, and calves, there is none of this group sizes.
well thats a mouth full for now

I don't believe the provincial government should have any say into the MNR's business. I truly believe the MNR is trying to manage our fish, game, wildlife and forests as best they can (given the resources they have been provided). All the government cares about is getting re-elected. Politics should have no part in managing our resources. Let the biologists and forestry experts do their job and keep the meddling politicians (who are mostly lawyers) out of it.

I agree with both of you.

MNR isn't that a part of our provincial government don't we have a Minister of Natural resources who sits in parliment, isn't it this person who supposedly speaks for us in some way or fashion. I don't see that happening! Just wait until this person has to have a bear removed from his backyard because the bear population has moved into his location and all the bear was doing was looking for an easy meal of expensive garbage. watch the headlines then! There are many organizations that lobby the goverment on behalf of outdoorsmen, they have an uphill battle all the way no matter on what the cause.

Yes, the MNR is a provincially funded department. The head is an elected politician (David Ramsay). I can't speak about him personally, but in most cases politicians are more concerned with getting re-elected and how the public perceives them than what they actually accomplish. His boss, the party leader (Premier Mcguinty) is also looking to get re-elected. As we all know, politicians can and do say just about anything to get elected (that's why they are called the Fiberals in Ontario). It doesn't matter how much sound scientific evidence the MNR has at it's disposal, if the governing party wants to earn public opinion points they can and will screw up the province's fish and game to save their own skin.
What I'm saying, is make the MNR at arm's length from political decisions and we'll all be better off.

To all hunters and fisherman out there in Ontario if you have a problems with decisions made by the Ontario MNR or the Ontario Government you can send a letter to the Minister of Natural Resources.
send all replies to:
Hon. David Ramsay
Ministry of Natural Resources
6630-99 wellesley St w.
Toronto Ontario
M7A 1W3
The more letters and concerns about hunting and fishing and writing about the decisions made by the Ontario Government and MNR will help ensure hunting and fishing in Ontario in the future. It only take a minute to write a letter and express your concern but it may have a major effect in the decisions made by either party.
Also check out Ontario enviromental bill of rights at www.ene.gov.on.ca/envregistry to see all new changes that are proposed for the hunting and fishing Regulations.
The EBR is how the government makes changes the policies affecting hunting and fishing in Ontario.
