When you are big game hunting with rifle, do you ground hunt or stand hunt? Explain?

For myself when hunting with a rifle I am on the ground 80% of the time unless I find a real beauty of a spot for a tree stand. But when bear hunting it is another story.

I do not own a tree stand yet but I am working on changing that, so I have always hunted from the ground with bow or rifle. Perhaps this year I will get a chance to try tree stand hunting.

I used to do alot of stand hunting, but a fall from a stand about 10 years ago changed tha. I will still get up in stands and once I am up there, I am OK, it is just the climb up that gets me. So mainly I am a ground pounder.

As I don't own a stand as yet I am a ground hunter both with a gun and a bow.I have tryed a trypod stand durringgun season and found it pretty boring. For me ,staking a bedded animal or tracking sign can really get the ol ticker pounding. As while as finding fresh sign I find in ground hunting you can control your hunting action by making things happen. It can get really exciting epealilly when hunting with a bow!

ground

always ground

That's why I have feet and not paws, claws, or wings.

As dumb as it sounds, I work on ladders often @ work and I hate high places. I don't know which shakes more... me or the ladder  My little aversion rules out things like tall buildings with glass walls, skydiving, and tree stands. If I don't NEED to be off the ground you can bet I won't be off the ground lol

Ground, with bow, or rifle, I like to be able to move, and adapt. I own stands, and have used them, but I love the ground.
Spot and stalk is my favorite, second to that is still hunting.

I've tried both and enjoy the advantage of an elevated view but my preference for a treestand is a wood-built platform or box across a few trees rather than a tiny treestand. Ground hunting has been very effective for me with both bow and rifle and I've had more success calling in animals within bow-shooting range than rifle so go figure!

wookie - I'm the other way around for climbing in and out of trees... I can climb up just about anywhere without hesitation but I have a heck of time getting back down!

100% spot and stalk for me.I find stand hunting too boring and not much of a challange for rifle hunting.

With a blackpowder gun, only ground, with bow I do both according to circumstances. But prefer ground most of times.

I use both ground & stand...depending on the location....I don't like swaying in the wind & it can be pretty hard to find a big enough tree here in northern Ont most a lodge pole pine.I prefer to be in a tree.
