Bring back the Ontario spring bear hunt:
I know what we can do as hunters to bring this back, but we need to set aside our differances and work together as hunters and become organized. What I am refering to is that some hunters don't support local Game and Fish Clubs or larger organizations like OFAH, Northern Ontario Sportsman Alliance, or Friends of Fur. These people (non members) are not helping to fight for thier hunting rights or others just laying down and giving up. They are the first to whine when we lose something. I feel very strongly that if WE the hunting community could align ourselves together through diferent organizations such as Game and Fish clubs or larger hunting clubs, WE will be able to turn bad policies around to ensure our hunting heratage is not f*&*$% with. Over the years I have listened to people say they wouldn't support or I quit that organization because they didn't support something that they thaught was important. An example of this is the extra draw for Moose tags in Northern Ontario. I live in Northern Ontario and hunt in the Parrysound area and this draw dosen't apply for me due to the district I hunt in. Doesn't matter for the total amount of tags this program actually produces its like giving all Northern Ontario residents Metie Status. I also feel it was only brought in for political gain. Just because certian organizations didn't support this people forget what all that organization has done in the pass to ensure our hunting rights. Stop whining and start supporting or we may lose more. We the HUNTING COMMUNITY must support organizations that have political support to stop the loss of our hunting rights and get us new hunting rights, no matter if you agree totally with all they support. I know at work I don't agree with all the polices or decisions made by management but I still deal with them and go to work because its the "proper thing to do". If everyone supported and belonged to Game and Fish clubs or the larger organizations we would have a larger group of members to make a deferance.
If you belong to a Game and Fish club we need to be more active in our quest. We need to start more writing campaigns and be more vocal with local, provincial and Federal politicians. We must give support for these larger organizations so they will have more hitting power and create more political pressure. If no one in your organization is willing to step up to the plate then it is our responsibility to do so. Remember its not what these organizations will do for you but what you can do for these organizations. I hope HUNTERS across Ontario will think about what I have said and if you don't belong to an organization please join one. We must ALL unite as one "hunting community" across Ontario to ensure our heritage for the future.
If you know someone that is not a member of one of these organizations please try to convince them to support one. Together we will make a differance.
Maybe then we will be able to get the spring bear hunt reinstated.
This is my opinion and I stand by it.
Always hunting
