So I'm using a basic string, I was wondering if there is much to be gained by using something else. I don't know a hill of beans about strings, as you can tell. If there's something I should know or be using I'd appreciate the info.

I would call Al at the Calgary Archery Centre. 255-6830. He knows a ton about trad stuff and is a trad shooter himself. He's in Calgary of course. :D
He makes strings too....I shoot one on my hoyt and love it....

Strings make a ton of diference.
read the string review I did for "Great strings" and you will see just how much performance you can gain,.It's in the Trad review section.

I make all of my strings using B50 dacron. For my self and sinew backed bows it is fine. I think you would want to ckeck your overlay at the nocks to make sure it is something that can handle fast flight or better without cutting in.
