Ok T, I'll bite. :smile:

Here was my first attempt at arrow building. Spliced feathers on yellow cedar shafts for my longbow.

okay I admit I havent the foggiest how to make my own arrows, pretty lame huh? How much does a fletching jig cost? Is there much to be saved making your own arrows? Seems a shame to have to bring my arrows in to get fixed after I wreck them.

Fletching is easy to do. and fletchers are cheap in the long run.The gas saved making trips to get them done will pay for the fletcher.
I use a martin in the camper to make repairs and use the JoJan multi at home.
Buy feathers in 100 lots to save money.
Herb Haines sells fletches. fletchers and feather choppers{Vario Clipper}

Another thing to think about. I used turkey and goose feathers. I got the turkey from a farm that sells the "traditional" turkeys, not the factory white ones, and goose fethers are easy to come by, especially since the hunt is approaching. Turkey are stiffer but the arrows I make using right wing canada goose feathers fly very nicely. Gathering and processing your own feathers for fletching is very satisfying, especially at a 3D shoot where others tend to admire them.

I have a friend that build his own shafts and its pretty simple he lives about 14 hours away so i cant`t take a picture. He makes them on his table saw its a jig that runs the wood into the blade at about a 30 degree angle he turns the wood stock with a old drill after it comes off the blade it goes into a small piece of pipe to support. If you can figger one out and build it he makes great shafts. Any wood straight grained will do he makes jackpine fir cedar burch .
