Am interested in purchasing a new bow and want the best of all things - must be forgiving with good speed and as small as possible. Presently have a Mathews Ultramax, have looked at the new Hoyts but am interested in hearing comments / suggestions.

As far as the most forgiving bows go. Always look for long axle to axle and high brace height. As for short bows, I am outta my league. 36" A to A is short for me. Also a 65% letoff bow will be inherantly more stable than an 80% letoff bow. And heavier is usually a little more stable on the target, because the increased mass is harder to move. With all that said, the best bow for you may be one that I cannot even shoot. It is really an intimate decision and a matter of personal preference. Shoot many bows, and choose the one that just feels right.

Like cdnarcher said get what feels right. The criteria that you have set out was the same as I was looking at when I bought my bow. I was looking for about a 7" brace height and a 36-38" A to A. I chose a Hoyt Ultratec to fit the bill and I love it. You may want to look at the new Martin bows. You can download the new catalogue from their website. http://www.martinarchery.com/catalog.html

Good luck with your choice 8)

Them Martins are some sweet bows! Man, if this job payed better, I would be stocking up on Martins. They have just a killer line up this year. The Nitrous/Nitrous X Cam system is the cat's meow. A Hunting bow, a 3D bow and a spottie bow all in one!

Paid better!, I'll bet you would be happy with paid something :lolouch:  [/b]

I was checking out the new Martin Cougar and Slayr. Them's fast bows. I need more money. I don't think there are any bad bows made any more all the manufacturers are making top notch gear. I also like the new Hoyt Xtec as well.

I agree with cdnarcher and cdn-redneck, you need to go check out some bows. Your ideal bow will depend on your shooting style and what you find comfortable. I have found that for me, shooting a release, I like a bow with an axle to axle length of around 36", a brace height around 7" and as much speed over 300 fps as I can get without a harsh draw cycle. If you shoot with your fingers you may want something longer say 41" axle to axle. Most bow manufacturers now have really good products, junk doesn't sell in todays market and with the internet word about bad products travel fast. I have seen " bad press" on the internet destroy companies with all the fury and speed of a tornado. For 2004 check out Martin, PSE, Hoyt, Bowtech, Reflex, AR and Mathews one of these companies will have a quality bow in their line up that will fit the bill for you.
