brace height ???

:)new to bow hunting and very curious..... i was looking at purchasing a mathews SQ2 it has a brace height of 8 1/2 inches is that too much i have read that u want to keep your brace height as short as possible around 7'' does it matter...thanks

I like lots of brace height , I shoot a Matthews Legacy with a brace height of 7 1/2'' and it is very forgiving. I've had bows with brace heights under 7 inches and I found them very hard to shoot well unless I shot everyday. Any error on your part when you take the shot seems to be magnified alot more with a short brace height at least that is what I have found. I think the SQ2 should be very forgiving and easy to shoot with the 8 1/2 " brace height.

if you are new to archery and bow hunting go with the greater brace height you will thank yourself, much easier to shoot

The math is pretty simple on brace height.

The higher the brace height the slower the bow most often, but not always.
The lower the height the faster the bow , but far less forgiving, but not always.

I found that you want a bow with a little of both Good brace height( Between 6 an 7 inches ain't bad), but that is also fast enough that it won't kill you on yardage estimation.

Some good bows in this catagory are:

The Hoyt Ultra tec
The AR 37

And there are others.
I think It's most important to find one that fits you and has alittle of both.

A large brace height will also minimize string slap on the arm as well as it makes for a more forgiving bow.Shorter heights are normaly faster because they increase the power stroke of the limbs.Most new bows are not a finicky as the first generatiom of low height bows.If your form is consistant you probably won't notice much diference.
