I haven't had a chance to get out in deer country for the last week or so and was wondering what you Alberta hunters are seeing for muley and whitetail rut sign. Are they chasing the does yet ? I will be starting my hunting on the weekend and hope the big boys are to the point where they are taking chances they wouldn't normally take. Hope to find one or two that is just a little numb lol.

I was out in 318 yesterday.
Lots of sign, but no active chasing yet. Saw a dozen whitey does, a couple of mulie does and a cow moose. Nothing I could shoot tho'.
I'm still going out there again(and again) hoping to fill my cow elk draw for 318.
I'll let you know when they start, I'll be out there again fri/sat.

Has the snow gone down any yet out there?

8)
Not too bad. Most of it has packed down to under a foot.
The areas where there has been traffic (Sleds and quads) are getting crunchy in the tracks. I walked in the untracked (lots quieter).
That was up in the Bearberry area.

Well I was out this morning and seen a nice 4X4 Mulie buck with 4 does so it is starting for sure..
I was out on Sat and the guys I were with shot 2 mulie bucks with no does but there necks were pretty thick so I think for the resty of the season it should be good...
As far as snow goes got cought in a white out about 7K's away from the truck this morning walking in snow up too my ass so there is a tone out there and I don't see it going anywhere soon...

Good luck guys I am off for a couple days going for Elk just south of Longview..

Monday night I was on Merdian Street just south of Edmonton, saw three mulies, stopped backed up and realized that it was three bucks, so their certainly not in full rut yet but hopefully by next week. Have seen a few Whitetail bucks in the same area they didn't have their noses to the ground.

Things are starting to happen were I hunt, I was thrilled to watch two young bucks spar with each other at 30 yards and two more a little later on do the ear down walk around dance a hundred yards away from me until a cow walked between them. But by that time I was watching a small 4x4 in front of me beat up the bush. He's lucky I'm looking for his big brother because this is the 3rd time he’s put himself within 30 yards and not knowing i'm there. Next week he may not get a reprieve.
