Well first off jmp, welcome to The BowZone!

I am pretty sure that this will help ya out...If I'm wayy out to lunch, someone please correct me on this but I don't think I am.

It sounds like you're doing what I used to do and that's wanting to look at what you're shooting at. I never had the problem of not being able to get the pin in the centre, but I was peeking at the target as the arrow left the bow...I was left or right all the time.

Now, what was suggested that I try was set my 20 pin to 22 yards, my 30 pin to 32 yards, etc....so instead of holding my pin on the target, I hold it low so I can still see what I'm shooting at and the pin doesn't cover it up.

The distances for your pins may be different, but the logic should work for you.

thank you for the suggestion !i thought of doing that to compensate for holding low.i did not used to have this problem.i had a veteran archer tell me about 15 years ago to pick your spot and bring your pin (and peep in my case)into alignment with the spot .i've always done this but just can't achieve this now?i may set up that way anyway thanks

What your descrbing is a form of target panic I have been fighting for several years. There are several techniques that can help overcome the aversion to holding the pin in the yellow. Terry and Michelle Ragsdale had a video out several years ago called "Holding Study". Several of the methods they describe definately helped me get through this problem, although it reoccurs once in a while.

Try and find the video it will definately help.

Teo exercises that can help overcome this type of target panic are aiming, and blank bale.

In the aiming exercise, Draw and hold on the center without puting your finger on the trigger or thinking about the release, then let down (don't shoot. Without the pressure of shooting the arrow, it is usually a lot easier to get on the center and hold there. repeat this until you are steady on the spot.

Next shoot at a blank target but. It's best to remove the sight from the bow so you don't aim. Now just work on getting the shot to go off smoothly and concentrate on your follow through as well.

Once you get this going good go back to the aiming, and everytime you feel like you've got one mastered then switch. after a while start alternating back and forth.

Then bring the shooting back. Make a shot or two, then just aim, then another couple of shots then blank bale.

If these don't work for you then you probably should seek an experienced coach. There may be some underlying form or execution issue that a coach may be able to reveal.

I hope this helps you get going again.

since it sounds like you are using a pin sighe and not a scope to practice for hunting. Try focusing on your pin and making sure that your pin is centered in the peep. Your target will now be somewhat fuzzy, it will be easier to put and keep your pin on the target while you pull through the shot. this was a trick that Randy Ulmer said he whould do for target archery. I don't use a scope because I find it distracting that I can see my previous holes in the target, and then I have trouble holding on the center because I am looking at the hole that is off of the 10 a bit.

Good luck.
