Well I figured I would expand my horizons a bit and start shooting paper. My question is this....what kind of scores would be considered reasonably competitive at......lets say a provincial level (18M FITA)??? I shot my first ever FITA rounds the other night, seems like it will be fun, shot 278, 274....so lots of room to improve! I'm guessing to be somewhat competitive a person is going to have to be somewhere in the mid 290's???? So come on you paper shooters out there.....what kind of scores do I need to be shooting for :?: :?: :?:

It depends on which catagorey your shooting in?

If your shooting open on the small inner ten, 290 will keep you in it.

If your shooting one of the hunter catagoreys on the big ten, 298 to 300 is what you will need to stay in it.

Hope this help.

Thanks for the info sniper..... could you clarify a bit though please. I was not aware that there were different size tens you could shoot, I shot the basic 3 spot, very smallest ring being the X. I shoot fixed pin compound, so what catagory would that put me in? Also is there differences in the rules and categories etc in different areas, or is it pretty much standard through-out the country?

Thanks,
Chris

As far as the rules go it's pretty much standard across the country for fita.
And more or less the world with a few teritorial acceptions.

With the gear you descrided you would shoot the big ten in Canada, as long as you don't have a level. If you shoot with a level or a lens you would count the little X-ring as ten.

On your target there is a larger circle around the little x-ring, about the size of a tonie, thats probably the ten ring you'd count.

Yep! that little bitty x ring is the ten if you are shooting compound. That will definitely keep you on your game (or through you completely off!)

I was practicing for an indoor FITA that I'll shoot in tomorrow. I shot a personal best for 30 arrows, 290!

A stabilizer longer than 12" or a v-bar would also move you up to the Compound from the Bowhunter Unlimited class.

I have been on the site for quite a while but lost track of my login. Finally re-registered.

Congrats on the win at the IBO worlds. I might actually shoot a little more 3D this year. Might even set up a bow for it. Hope to see you around.

Thanks. How has hunting been going for you this season? Are you all tagged out?

Hunting seasons been okay took a small bull moose, white tail and mule deer as well as a doe or two. Still looking for an Elk. Got drawn for the blackpowder/archery season in CFB Wainwright so will be looking for a couple of good bucks up there at the end of the month.

Trying to fill another doe tag with a longbow, have missed MANY shots from 15-25 yards...

I've got to brag some more, Shot a 292 at 18M scoring the inner ten.

It's really starting to come together for me lately.

I'm shooting a vegas round tomorrow night. I'll see if I can shoot a 300 :!:

Ok,

Are there any non-sniper's here?

I am just learning to shoot and typically shoot over 200 but under 250. Shot a 252 and a 251 over the past weekend and was pretty proud of myself.

Still chasing the target with my sights, so hopefully the scores will improve.

My ambition is to shoot 580 within a year.

If your shooting outdoor FITA in Canada everyone better start practicing.

Deitmier Trillius from Ontario posted scores of 1402/1406 in two outdoor Fitas in Caledon last weekend shattering every distance and total national FITA record.

How good is that? The only other shooter in the world ever to post back to back 1400's is Dave Cousins. Deitmier is also only the 15th or 16th person in the world ever to break the 1400 level outdoors and likely the oldest at 47.
