Well its question of the day time on the old forums.
I have been thinking about ways to get a flatter trajectory out of my arrows to be more precise in 3D shooting and I can come up with a couple of things which I think might help. Now what would help and what I can afford are two different things, so I will lay out my ideas to you guys and see what you think.
Idea one: New bow. My bow is older model with a non radical cam like you find now a days on the cam and a half type bows. I am assuming that the cam design along with the limbs has something to do with the speed of the bow and thus the flatter trajectory of the arrow.....New bows are expensive so probably not in the planning......Yet.
Idea two: Crank on the poundage. I am pulling 62# with my bow and its giving me about 240 fps. Plenty fast enough for hunting. I have had my bow cranked up to 73# at one time but I couldnt hold the draw for more than about 20 seconds and I would hate to think what pulling that much weight for two rounds of 3D would do to me....I wouldnt be able to raise my arms.....But it would work to flatten the trajectory.
Idea 3: Heres the one I have been mulling over quite a bit. Lighter arrows. I shoot Carbon excel 400's with 100 gr heads at 30 inches. that means the arrows are roughly 400 grains of weight to push downrange. I think that I could shorten them a touch and maybe use a 65 gr field point to shoot 3D with. That would definitely lessen the weight some and flatten the trajectory of the arrow. But what would it do to my hunting setup of my one and only bow?
Right now my bow is set up for hunting just the same way I set it up for 3D. And its working pretty good. And lets face it, its the hunting thats more important than the 3D. But I have had a great year at 3D shoots and want to become more competitive also.
So there it is boys, tell me what you think I should do. :?
