I have an old wingmaster and the barrel has external surface rust. Can I powder coat the barrel rather than bluing it? If so, are there any precautions I need to be aware of?

Yes you can Russ, if you do it your self get some cork and make plug's for both end's before you start, if you get it bead blasted before you powder coat it, it will come out with a even more flatter finish!

I think the bead blaster I have access to, is too small. OTH, I have nearly a pound of solar black :-) I think, I'm going to wait 'till after turkey's and do the whole gun right. I read somewhere the ceramic stuff is even better and I'm pretty sure my gun will blow that stuff too.

Let me know after your turkey hunt my cabinet is big enough for a barrel and i have aluminum oxide 80 grit in it right now on lower PSI it work's better than bead any day would only take 10 minutes on your way through town.

I had mine done at Dawson Creeks Corelane Sporting Goods. It looks great and it looks like it will last 10 lifetimes. I went away from traditional black and coloured it a green / brown. It looks like it will blend in well with the cattails and layout blinds.
