Every year the USFGA goes to the nesting areas of migratory birds usually about mid-july while the adult birds are molting and can not fly, they round up the birds and band them with small aluminum band on their leg, they then take all of the birds info species, sex age and so on, they are then released back inot the wild. When a hunter harvests a banded bird he can call the USFGA and report the sequential number off of the band to them along with the bird info date of kill and location this help's in the study of the migration for where the birds fly what time of the fall they migrate and where they migrate to. As a waterfowl hunter the band is a bonus you can put on your call lanyard as a keepsake plus after registration you get a certificate mailed to you, fun stuff!!!
